Digital painting has enabled artists to express their thoughts and ideas in the digital media. Many of these works may not be as priceless as the works of Picasso and his colleagues but the thing here is the simplified technique of oil and canvas in programs like Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop is a popular all-around software that is an ideal tool for would-be digital painters. Other software are available but for this purpose we will use Adobe as our graphic buddy.

1. Sketch the outline and important areas of your image. I am concerned only with placement and rough proportions, the drawing doesn't have to look finished. I usually have a 'sketch layer' on top then a render layer beneath, and then the background layer below that, so three layers in total. In this painting I add one more layer - a drop shadow layer.
2. Block in color areas, getting a rough idea of the hues I want to use. I usually start off a bit darker and build up to the highlights. This is taking place on my render layer (render all on one layer primarily except for backgrounds occasionally) . This can go a bit faster if you turn the brush's opacity jitter 'off' for this step.
3. Block in a quick shadow - you can use a separate layer for this if you want - place it beneath the render layer and above the background layer.
4. Adding in some tones of red and blue - beginning to flesh things out a tad.
5. Starting to build the highlights. I have chosen a more saturated yellow orange than the base I had layed down. Avoid using dodge or burn settings, its often a poor substitute for proper values and color.
6. More of step 5, but this time adding in some blue highlights and blending in the colors. This is done by using the brush's opacity and continous sampling of sorunding colors with the eyedropper tool "i" (for quicker access to the eyedropper use the 'alt' tab while you are in brush mode). I didn't want to go for exact realism in color in this painting, I wanted to really bump up the vibrancy of the image so I am playing with more saturated colors.
7. With a small brush I add some hairs about the body, and continue to render the wasp, giving the subject more depth.
8. More highlights and some texture to the hard 'skin' of the wasp. Again using a small round brush.
9. I switched to the shadow layer and begin blending it out. Continue blending until happy. The subject of Arlidge’s digital painting is a bee lying on its side and I can definitely see the rich details incorporated with it. You won’t even think that it has been made with Photoshop. Vivid colors and textures made the painting life-like and its appearance almost mimics that of an oil painting.

WHAT IS DIGITAL POP ART?

How would you like your image to have that comic look? It’s really easy with just three simple steps and your pop art is set.
The three main steps include deciding on the image, filling the image with color, and creating the dots. You can, either, use Photoshop or Illustrator.
The first step involves deciding on what image to work on. You can use simple, modular and more detailed, preferably black and white, line art. Open the image in Photoshop or Illustrator. When working with Photoshop, make sure that the image is in the RGB color mode. If it’s not, convert it by clicking Image Mode, then, RGB Color.
Next, color your image. If you are using Photoshop, you have to make a new layer for each color. To do this, at the base of the Layers palette, click the Create a New Layer button. From the toolbox, select the Paint Bucket. In coloring your image you may want to fill in areas from your line art. Select All Layers options box in the tool options bar. Click on the Set Foreground Color swatch in the toolbox. Select the color of your choice then click OK. Click on an area within your image to fill it with color using the Paint Bucket tool. Repeat these steps until you finished coloring your image.
If you are using Illustrator, you have to select first the area you want to color. In the Color Palette, click the Set Foreground Color swatch. Choose a color. Drag the swatch into the Swatches palette so that you will be able to color other areas with the same color without doing over all the previous steps. Repeat the steps when filling other areas with a different color.
If you are through coloring your image, you can now go to the final step, creating the dots. This is, actually, turning of the colors into dots.
To create dots with your Photoshop, select the color that you want to convert in the Layers palette. Make another copy of the image. To do this, drag the layer into the Create New Layer button. Hide the original copy of the image. Reselect the layer that you just copied. Choose Filter, then, Pixelate, then Color Halftone. A window will pop out. On the Color Halftone window, adjust the Max. Radius setting from 4 to 127. The larger the number the larger the dots will be. Then, click OK. Repeat this procedure to all other areas that you want to have dots.
If you want to edit your work, choose the copied version of the image. Select it to make it visible. Choose Layers and click Screen. Then, select from the options given. Repeat this procedure until you are satisfied with the result.
In creating the dots with Illustrator, select one area in the image. Then choose Effect, then, Pixelate, then, Color Halftone. A dialog box will open. In the Color Halftone dialog box, set the Max. Raduis. You can select from 8 to 20. In using Color Halftone, the results will vary on the color mode. In RGB the dots are translucent, while in the CMYK darker dots cover the lighter ones. Process colors can’t be converted into halftones. After adjusting the radius, click ok. Repeat the steps to all other areas you want to fill with dots.

The graphs pertaining to same-sex marriages from CNN, CBS and MSNBC express one fact - the union of gay and lesbian couples isn’t fully accepted in the society until now, particularly in the U.S. Majority of its fifty states has laws that ban same sex marriages or prohibit the recognition of gay marriages. The laws and constitutional amendments which are being pushed by pro-third sex lawmakers always fail.

According to cbsnews.com, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in June 2003 that it is not a crime for gay people to have sex. This ruling added spice to the present debate on gay rights in the U.S. If it is legal for gays to have sex, then should they also be allowed to marry? And if they can't marry, should adoption laws allow gay couples to both be the legal parents anyway? While these most sensitive issues are being tested, a federal hate crimes bill that expands current laws to include sexual orientation or disabilities has been unable to clear Congress – this is perhaps a sign that none of this matter will be settled soon.

Simply, as long as moralists exist and we still believe in the teachings of our good Lord that men and women are the only ones who were created in this wonderful world, the issue on same-sex marriages will take some more time before it will be finally settled. How long will it be – we all don’t know. Let’s just all be happy with our lives and continue to live our lives to the fullest.

Converting Raw File

The Canon raw conversion routines do not sharpen the image or adjust the gamma, saturation and contrast when linear conversion is selected. The result is a very dark, dull and sometimes soft image. This can be corrected using BreezeBrowser's post processing options to sharpen the image and adjust the levels, gamma and saturation. The settings will vary from image to image and the results are subjective. This is only applicable to Canon Raw files. Select the "Convert Raw Image" menu option or press the "Convert" button to display the Raw convert dialog. Different cameras allow different raw conversion adjustments and so the contents of the raw conversion dialog will vary according to the camera model.The raw conversion method can be set to "Normal", "Linear" or "Combined". All three conversion modes are available for 10D, 300D, D30, D60, G2, G3, G5, S30, S40, S45, S50, S60 and Pro1 raw files but only "Normal" mode is available for the G1 and Pro90. If "Linear" or "Combined" conversion is selected for G1 or Pro90 raw files they will be converted using "Normal" conversion. Select "Normal" conversion for normal, well exposed shots. This uses the standard Canon raw conversion routines and allows you to set the white balance, saturation, contrast and sharpness. Select "Linear" conversion to convert the raw file with the minimum of post processing. This takes the raw sensor data and only applies white balance correction. The image will be very dark because it has a gamma value of 1.0 from the camera and has not been adjusted to a gamma of 2.2 normally used for displaying images on a PC screen. "Combined" conversion is useful for shots which are slightly over exposed and shots with a lot of highlight detail. "Combined" conversion is not appropriate for all images but it can be very effective with slightly over-exposed images. Smart noise reduction uses sophisticated image processing techniques to filter out noise from digital images with virtually no loss of image detail. All digital cameras images have noise in them and this noise becomes more apparent at higher ISO settings. The saturation, contrast and sharpness settings can also be selected from the combo boxes. These settings are disabled when linear conversion is selected. A group of raw files can be converted in a batch using the same settings by first selecting the required images in thumbnail mode and then displaying the raw conversion dialog and pressing the "Convert selected" button. On batch processing you only need a bunch of images. A File Browser that supports RAW (such Photoshop CS') can help you narrow down the selection. in CS, you can preview the RAW images without having to convert them. Resize, sharpen and level images with post-processing options: levels, gamma correction, saturation adjustment, resizing and sharpening. Output to JPEG, JPEG 2000 (16-bit, 8-bit, lossless and lossy), TIFF (uncompressed 16-bit and 8-bit), PNG (compressed 8-bit and 16-bit). Improved highlight detail with combined raw conversion. These personally-taken photos are being uploaded by Flickr users. They carry tags having a keyword/keywords that will give clues if where the photos are exactly taken. It’s up for Mappr to give an educational guess about the exact location of the picture.

The Mappr is a combination of images and geography. Simply, it is a geographic information system. However, the means through which the application maps the images is unclear. But the good thing is that this ambiguity creates a positive user experience because it lets us see how accurate the guess is from the available tags. Mappr is expected to be vague because we are not the best in accurate identification but also because there are some places having crazy names.

On the other hand, the interactivity of Mappr makes it very appealing. Through our taken photos of different locations in the US which are posted in Mappr, we will be able to explore places and experience to be there virtually. Pictures and web services can truly bring us to places that we can only reach through our imagination before. This is pretty cool, right? Definitely! It is sure fun.
So far, Flickr is simply the best for photo sharing and management. One of its most desirable features is the ability to add your own tags. The collective amount of tags that Flickr users create makes it truly incredible. Another great feature that Flickr offers is the Flickr API for non-commercial use. This means that other developers have the basic building blocks to create applications that build on to the Flickr platform.

The Mappr is an inexact science but it works and it will get better with Flickr’s continuous efforts. The latter expects that the use of Mappr will encourage Flickr users to provide more location-specific information with their photos that will contain the names of the state and the city. It is also expected that the project's status as a mutual endeavor depending on a substantial base of Flickr users should provide exciting opportunities for knowledge and communication.
